National Association of Women in Construction
The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is led by a team of passionate volunteers who strive to champion and empower women in the construction and related industries to reach their full potential. With chapters in every state and territory, it is also part of a global network of NAWIC organisations.
NAWIC provides a forum for its members to meet and exchange information, ideas and solutions. It also offers its members an opportunity to expand personal and business networks, maintain awareness of industry developments, improve skills and knowledge and make a contribution to other women in the construction industry.
A member of NAWIC has shared her experience.
‘I am the Pre-contract Manager at one of Australia’s largest construction contractors and have been an active member of NAWIC for more than 7 years (joining in 2016), participating at all levels, including former Chair of the NAWIC Qld Awards for Excellence.
‘In 2021, I became a National Director of the NAWIC Board.
‘The networks I have gained through my NAWIC associations—together with the contributions I have made—have contributed to the empowerment of women across the construction industry and for my employer.
‘I joined NAWIC to give back to the industry as I knew there was more work to do to actively attract and retain women to the industry.
'I most enjoy networking and building relationships with women in construction, and the men who support them.
‘Working in a male-dominated industry like construction, associations such NAWIC offer an opportunity to meet and build relationships with like-minded individuals who can help you achieve your career development goals, share stories of success, struggle or advice and most importantly offer a place to belong and be heard.
‘This is why I recommend women join NAWIC.’
